Fishing on the Thornapple River
For many campers at Whispering Waters, some of the best moments of the season happen along the water. The Thornapple River offers a quieter, more relaxed fishing experience where campers can slow down, spend time outdoors, and enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the campground.
Whether casting from shore, spending time near the riverbank in the early morning, or unwinding near the water in the evening, fishing has long been part of the rhythm of camp life here in Hastings, Michigan.
The Thornapple River and nearby West Michigan lakes offer opportunities to catch a variety of popular freshwater fish throughout the season, making the area a favorite for both casual anglers and longtime fishing enthusiasts.
Kayaking Information
One of the larger tributaries of the Grand River, the Thornapple River is the only tributary to join the Grand River from the south. Originally used for fur trading and the lumber and milling industries, the Thornapple River is now primarily a recreational wonderland. It offers calm waters and good fishing along its length. This river also features a historic covered bridge in Ada near the mouth of the river.
